APG officials join the celebration of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute Grand Opening

The Maryland Fire and rescue institute of the University of Maryland is the state’s comprehensive training and education system for the emergency services. The institute plans, researches, develops, and delivers quality programs to enhance the ability of emergency service providers to protect life, the environment, and property.

Officials said the center is of the utmost importance to the continued educational success of fire, rescue, and EMS students in this region consisting of Cecil County, Harford County, Baltimore County, and Baltimore City.

The Maryland General Assembly approved Capital Budget included $8.3 million in funding to move ahead with this project.

Aberdeen Proving Ground Commanding General Maj. Gen. Nick Justice spoke at the grand opening. APG firefighters will also benefit greatly from the institute, he said.
