Representatives from each fire district in Cole County announce they are on a high state of alert at the Cole County Fire Protection District Headquarters in Jefferson City, Mo., on Friday, June 29, 2012. A high state of alert indicates firefighters will prepare themselves for the hot weather and the added heat from potential fires by drinking lots of water. The district also asks the community to be aware of use of fireworks and barbeque pits during the Fourth of July week. (Travis Zimpfer/KOMU)
